Dhaka, Dec 03 (V7N) – A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking a stay on all activities related to the upcoming 13th National Parliament election.
On Wednesday, Advocate Yarul Islam, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Congress, filed the writ in the relevant branch of the High Court on behalf of the party. The petition is scheduled to be heard next week by a double bench headed by Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi.
The writ challenges the appointment of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) as Returning and Assistant Returning Officers, instead of District and Upazila Election Officers. It seeks a ruling on why this decision should not be declared illegal and requests that the election process be suspended until the matter is resolved.
A response to the rule has been sought from the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other relevant authorities.
