Dhaka, Oct 4 (V7N) – Outgoing Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Riaz Hamidullah today paid a farewell call on Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in New Delhi and discussed issues of mutual interest.

"Pleased to receive Bangladesh High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah for a farewell call. Appreciate his contribution and wish him all the best in future endeavours," Jaishankar said in a post on his verified social media account.

During his around 18-month tenure in India, Riaz said he had sought to quietly advance Bangladesh-India relations based on mutual trust, dignity and shared benefits. Rather than following only traditional channels of diplomacy, Riaz said he sought to reach out to different sections of Indian society and strengthen the people-to-people dimension of bilateral relations.

The farewell call came as the Bangladesh envoy prepares to conclude his diplomatic assignment in New Delhi.

Riaz Hamidullah, a career diplomat, served as Bangladesh's High Commissioner to India since April 2025. During his tenure, he focused on strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors, including trade, connectivity, and people-to-people contacts. His diplomatic career has included postings in several countries, and he has been known for his efforts to promote Bangladesh's interests abroad. The farewell call marks the end of his assignment in New Delhi, with a successor expected to be appointed soon.
