Dhaka, Oct 01 (V7N)- Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the government will not make political appointments in the financial sector, adding that the policy will remain unchanged in the future.

He made the remarks at the golden jubilee celebration of the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) on Thursday (October 1).

The Finance Minister said state-owned enterprises could not depend solely on government support to survive. Instead, they must improve their efficiency and professionalism to remain competitive.

He also called for transforming ICB into a more efficient, competitive and professional institution in line with the changing needs of the economy.

Acknowledging ICB’s history of achievements as well as periods of setbacks, Amir Khasru said changes would be introduced to the institution’s structure and management.

The minister further emphasized reducing reliance on retail investors and increasing engagement with institutional and international investors to strengthen the capital market.

He said the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) was simplifying capital market rules and regulations. According to him, the direct listing period had been reduced from 18 months to three months, with further reforms planned in the future.
