Dhaka, Sep 26 (V7N)- The second phase of a nationwide special measles vaccination campaign began on Saturday to protect children who missed routine immunization or remain at risk of measles.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the government launched the special "catch-up" campaign to reach children who were not vaccinated during previous immunization drives.
The campaign will continue until October 31, with around 3.4 million children aged between 6 and 59 months expected to receive measles vaccinations.
These children missed the main measles-rubella vaccination campaign conducted from April 5 to May 20, according to health authorities.
Health workers and volunteers will conduct household visits at union and ward levels across the country to identify, register and vaccinate eligible children.
The vaccination teams will also maintain records of children receiving the vaccine to help ensure that those who missed previous doses are reached.
Authorities have also planned to keep vaccination services available on holidays and during evening hours to make the programme more accessible to working parents.
The health authorities have urged eligible families to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that children receive the vaccine during the campaign period.
