Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N)- The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has taken Rakibul Hasan, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cantonment Police Station, into custody for questioning over an audio recording circulating on social media.
He was summoned to the DB office and questioned on Thursday night (September 17), according to DB sources.
The sources said a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the audio recording, and the committee summoned the police officer for questioning as part of its inquiry.
Earlier on Thursday, Rakibul Hasan was made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for administrative reasons. An order issued by the DMP Commissioner's Office attached him to the Central Reserve Office under the DMP Headquarters and Administration Division.
The audio circulating on social media allegedly contains a conversation involving OC Rakibul Hasan about the possible return of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh.
The authenticity of the recording has not been independently verified. Rakibul Hasan later claimed in a Facebook post that the viral audio had been generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
Following the circulation of the recording, authorities formed the three-member committee to investigate its authenticity and circumstances surrounding its dissemination.
The questioning of Rakibul Hasan is part of the ongoing inquiry into the matter.
