Four More Parliamentary Standing Committees Formed, Total Reaches 40

Sangsad Bhaban, Sept 7 (V7N) – Four more parliamentary standing committees were formed today, taking the total number of committees formed in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad to 40, according to a BSS report.

The four newly constituted committees are:

Parliamentary Committee on Rules of Procedure

Committee on Government Assurances

Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works

Petition Committee

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, was made Chairman of both the Committee on Rules of Procedure and the Petition Committee. BNP lawmaker AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon (Noakhali-1) was made Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances, while BNP lawmaker Rezaul Karim Badsha (Bogura-6) was made Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni proposed the formation of the first three committees, while Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal proposed the formation of the Petition Committee. The proposals were later passed by voice votes in the House.

There are 50 parliamentary committees in the Jatiya Sangsad, including **39 standing committees on ministries** and **11 subject-based committees**. So far, 40 parliamentary committees have been formed, including 31 standing committees on ministries and nine subject-based committees.

Parliamentary standing committees are essential for ensuring transparency, accountability and legislative oversight in Bangladesh's parliamentary democracy. They scrutinize proposed legislation, examine ministry budgets, review government policies and programs, and hold the executive accountable for its actions. The formation of these committees is a significant step in strengthening the country's democratic institutions and promoting good governance.

The committees will be tasked with examining bills, scrutinizing government expenditure, reviewing policy implementation, and investigating matters of public importance as needed. The remaining committees are expected to be formed soon, completing the full committee structure of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
