Natore, Sept. 06 (V7N) — Chief Whip of the National Parliament and Natore-2 MP Advocate M. Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu has accused the Awami League of destroying Bangladesh’s education system during its 17-year rule.

He made the remarks on Saturday around noon while inaugurating a newly constructed academic building at Madhnagar Degree College in Madhnagar Union of Naldanga Upazila, Natore.

Dulu said the recently presented national budget had allocated the highest-ever amount since independence to the education sector, claiming that the government led by Tarique Rahman had given priority to education.

“In my opinion, this budget has allocated the highest amount of money since independence to the education sector. Among all the ministries, the Tarique Rahman government has allocated the largest amount to the Ministry of Education,” he said.

He attributed the decision to what he described as the damage caused to the country’s education system during the previous 17 years.

Dulu said education was one of the most important foundations for a nation’s progress and alleged that efforts had been made to weaken the sector to prevent Bangladesh from becoming economically self-reliant.

“You know that the most important way to destroy a nation is to destroy its education system,” he said.

He further alleged that international conspiracies had targeted Bangladesh’s education system so that future generations would remain deprived of proper education and the country would ultimately fail to progress.

Referring to the previous Awami League-led government, Dulu described it as a “fascist government” and alleged that it had deliberately undermined the education system.

The four-storey academic building inaugurated at Madhnagar Degree College has one completed floor and was constructed at a cost of Tk 85 lakh.

Natore District Council Administrator and BNP Convener Rahim Newaz, Joint Convener Mostafizur Rahman Shahin, former organising secretary of Naldanga Upazila BNP Shafiqul Islam Bulbul, Saiful Islam Aftab and Madhnagar Degree College Principal Khandakar Abdul Malek were among those present.

Teachers and students of the college also attended the programme.

Earlier, a doa and milad mahfil was held at the Natore District BNP office seeking prayers for the recovery of Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, and marking the fourth death anniversary of Aminul Haque, former convener of the district BNP.
