Dhaka, Sept 1 (V7N)– A five-member investigation committee has been formed to ascertain the cause of Monday night's accident at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) that left three Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) personnel dead and four others injured .

The committee, headed by Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Deputy Director Nazrul Islam, will investigate why and how the accident occurred, said Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat after inspecting the site today . The inquiry will examine potential factors including the driver's competency, vehicle speed, and any technical or infrastructural issues .

Millat said preliminary observations suggested the crash may have occurred due to driving error or excessive speed. "I think the vehicle was travelling at a high speed and the driver could not control it. He was supposed to turn right but failed to make the turn," he told reporters . He stressed that definitive conclusions would await the investigation report .

The tragic accident occurred around 9:35 pm on August 31 when a BAF pickup carrying seven personnel performing Quick Response Force duties at the under-construction Third Terminal fell from an elevated roadway . Three personnel were declared dead at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), and four remain under treatment .

Following his inspection, the minister directed authorities to take immediate protective measures around the underpass and other vulnerable areas . "Once the Third Terminal opens, many people may come here out of curiosity. Protective measures should be put in place to eliminate any risk of people falling from the area," he said .

The funeral prayers for the deceased were held with military honours at BAF Base Bir Uttam AK Khandker on Tuesday, attended by Millat, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, and Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, who placed wreaths on the coffins . The bodies were later taken to their village homes for burial with military honours .
