Dhaka, Aug 18 (V7N)- The basic salaries of government employees from grades 1 to 20 could increase by up to 100 percent under the proposed Ninth National Pay Scale. The new salary structure has been recommended for implementation in two phases.
The information was disclosed in an e-book titled ‘180 Days of the People’s Government’, published by the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday (August 17) to mark 180 days of the government's tenure.
The section titled ‘Ninth Pay Scale: Big Good News for Government Employees’ outlines the proposed implementation of the new salary structure.
According to the proposal, the basic salary would be increased in the first year, while other allowances, including house rent, would be revised in the second year.
The recommendation for the Ninth Pay Scale has already been finalized, with all members of the secretarial committee signing the final report.
For the 2026-27 fiscal year, the government has allocated Tk 89,836 crore for salaries and allowances of government employees. Including pensions and gratuities, the total allocation for the sector stands at Tk 1,41,434 crore.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, speaking to journalists after a meeting on the pay scale review at the Finance Ministry on Monday, said the new pay scale would be announced within this year.
He said all necessary steps would be taken, although further discussions on some aspects were still required.
Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar told reporters at the Secretariat that the new pay scale could be announced “at any moment.”
The Ninth National Pay Commission had recommended raising the minimum basic salary of government employees from Tk 8,250 to Tk 20,000, while the maximum basic salary would increase from Tk 78,000 to Tk 160,000.
