Dhaka, Aug 08 (V7N) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has alleged that a group is deliberately trying to destabilize the country's energy sector by spreading misleading information and statements.
He made the remarks while speaking at the 37th founding anniversary programme of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) at the LD Hall premises of the Jatiya Sangsad on Saturday (August 8).
The prime minister acknowledged that many people across Bangladesh are currently facing difficulties with electricity and gas supplies. He said the government has never denied the problems and inherited a fragile energy system.
Tarique Rahman said successive governments had undertaken various plans and programmes in the energy sector, including gas and fuel, while some policies were allegedly designed to benefit particular groups.
"The entire country, the people and the present government are now having to bear the cost of those decisions," he said.
He attributed the current energy crisis partly to what he described as unplanned policies and projects implemented in the past. The government has already begun taking measures to address the situation, he said, adding that efforts are underway to restructure the energy sector through proper planning and gradually bring the country and its people out of the crisis.
Turning to the healthcare sector, the prime minister said the government is working to introduce an 'e-health card' as soon as possible.
He also said a decision has been taken to upgrade every upazila health complex into a 101-bed hospital.
However, Tarique Rahman stressed that infrastructure alone would not be sufficient to improve healthcare services.
"If doctors do not dedicate themselves with a service mentality, we will not be successful despite developing the infrastructure," he said.
The prime minister urged doctors to prioritize professional responsibility and service to patients alongside the government's efforts to expand and modernize the healthcare system.
