Cox’s Bazar, Aug 08 (V7N) — Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Friday that the government is not giving importance to statements allegedly made by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from abroad, accusing her allies of attempting to create instability in the country.

Speaking to reporters after laying the foundation stone of the Cox’s Bazar Medical College and Hospital building, Ahmed said the people of Bangladesh would not support any effort to destabilise the country.

"Those responsible for mass killings and crimes against humanity have shown no remorse and have never apologised to the people of Bangladesh," he said. "The people of this country will not allow them to resume political activities."

Referring to remarks attributed to Sheikh Hasina from outside Bangladesh, the minister said such statements no longer receive serious attention from the government.

"They may occasionally make statements or try to attract attention from abroad, but we are no longer giving those remarks importance," he said.

Addressing concerns over recent kidnapping incidents, Ahmed said the government is considering expanding the presence of the Bangladesh Army in areas where such crimes have become a concern.

He said the General Officer Commanding (GOC) would assess the security situation and determine where additional military camps may be required. The government has requested the army's support in strengthening security in vulnerable areas.

"We hope that increased security measures will help effectively suppress or significantly reduce crimes such as kidnapping," the minister said.

Earlier in the day, Ahmed visited the Cox’s Bazar Development Authority office, where he held a meeting with officials. He also inaugurated a residential apartment development project undertaken by the authority in the Kolatoli area.

The events were attended by local Members of Parliament Shahjahan Chowdhury, Almgir Muhammad Mahfuzullah Farid and Shamim Ara Swapna, along with the chairman of the Cox’s Bazar Development Authority and senior district administration and police officials.
