Dhaka, July 12 (V7N) — Former Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and former Acting President Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar has passed away. He was 94.

He breathed his last at 4:19 a.m. on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital. Family members said he had been suffering from various age-related health complications.

Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar was born on December 1, 1931, in Nayabari village of Tentulia Upazila in Panchagarh district.

A veteran politician and legal professional, he served as the Speaker of the Eighth Jatiya Sangsad and briefly assumed the responsibilities of Acting President of Bangladesh in 2002.

Throughout his political career, Barrister Sircar was a senior leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and played a significant role in parliamentary affairs, legislative processes and the development of the country's democratic institutions.

His death has been mourned by political leaders, colleagues and well-wishers, who remembered his long public service and contributions to Bangladesh's parliamentary democracy.
