Dhaka, Jul 08 (V7N)- Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, PSC, G, at the Defence Adviser's Office in the Armed Forces Division, Dhaka Cantonment, on Wednesday afternoon.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged greetings and reaffirmed the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Italy. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, expanding defence cooperation, and enhancing military training between the two countries.

The Defence Adviser emphasized that Bangladesh attaches great importance to its military and diplomatic relations with Italy and remains committed to further deepening cooperation in the defence sector.

Ambassador Alessandro praised the professionalism and capabilities of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and expressed confidence that defence relations between Bangladesh and Italy would continue to grow in the years ahead.

The meeting also explored opportunities to increase the participation of Bangladesh Armed Forces personnel in military training programmes offered by Italian defence institutions. Both sides discussed enhancing professional skills through advanced training, expanding exchanges of experience, and supporting the modernization of the Bangladesh Armed Forces.

In addition, the two officials highlighted the significant contributions made by Bangladesh and Italy to United Nations peacekeeping missions and reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting global peace, international security, and continued cooperation under the UN framework.

The meeting reflected the shared interest of both countries in expanding defence collaboration and strengthening their longstanding bilateral partnership.
