Dhaka, Jun 28 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made a surprise visit to the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARSO) on Sunday morning, directing officials to transform the agency into a modern, self-reliant institution capable of making a meaningful contribution to national security and development.

The Prime Minister arrived at the SPARSO headquarters in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon, at around 9:15 a.m., outside his pre-scheduled official itinerary.

During the visit, SPARSO Chairman Md. Rashidul Islam briefed the Prime Minister on the organization's ongoing activities, research initiatives and overall operations. Tarique Rahman later toured various departments of the agency and held an impromptu exchange of views with its officers and employees.

Addressing officials, the Prime Minister instructed the authorities concerned to develop SPARSO into a modern, technologically advanced and self-reliant space research organization that can play an effective role in strengthening Bangladesh's national security, scientific research and overall development.

Several senior government officials accompanied the Prime Minister during the visit, including Defense Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, Defense Secretary Md. Ashraf Uddin, Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon, Private Secretary-2 Md. Mehedul Islam, Deputy Press Secretary-1 Zahidul Islam Rony, and senior officials from the Ministry of Defense and SPARSO.

SPARSO is Bangladesh's national agency responsible for the research, development and application of space science, satellite technology and remote sensing. The organization plays a key role in supporting weather forecasting, disaster management, agriculture, environmental monitoring and other strategic sectors through satellite-based technologies.
