Dhaka, Jun 27 (V7N) – State Minister for Planning Jonayed Saki has said the government's primary objective for the 2026–27 fiscal year is to ensure effective implementation of the national budget to revive the country's economy and maximize its benefits for the people.

He made the remarks while addressing a Shadow Parliament debate organized by Debate for Democracy at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) in Dhaka on Saturday.

The state minister said the government has undertaken initiatives to recover an estimated Tk 28–29 lakh crore that was allegedly laundered abroad during the tenure of the previous administration.

According to Jonayed Saki, successful implementation of the budget will require equal emphasis on both execution and financing.

"To reap the full benefits of the budget, attention must be paid not only to its implementation but also to its financing," he said.

Highlighting recent developments in revenue administration, he said tax collection by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has gathered momentum over the past four months and that the government is moving towards full automation of the revenue collection system to improve efficiency and transparency.

The state minister also stressed the importance of strengthening accountability in the country's financial sector.

He said ensuring full accountability in bank management and across the broader financial system would be essential for restoring confidence, improving governance and supporting sustainable economic recovery.

Jonayed Saki reiterated the government's commitment to implementing reforms aimed at enhancing transparency, increasing revenue collection and stabilizing the national economy through prudent fiscal management.
