Dhaka, Jun 09 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman held a courtesy meeting with United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at the opposition leader’s office at around 11:30 a.m., where the two sides exchanged views on a range of national and international issues.
According to sources familiar with the discussion, the meeting focused on the country’s overall political and economic situation following the recent elections, the upcoming national budget, and prospects for expanding bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and the United States.
The two leaders also discussed various aspects of Bangladesh–US relations, as well as issues of mutual interest concerning regional and global developments.
Particular emphasis was placed on the development of democratic institutions in Bangladesh, promotion of good governance, and opportunities for enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides expressed optimism about further strengthening the longstanding relationship between Bangladesh and the United States through continued dialogue, mutual respect, cooperation and understanding.
The discussion comes at a time when Bangladesh and the United States are seeking to deepen engagement on economic, political and development-related issues amid evolving regional and global challenges.
