Dhaka, May 10 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called upon members of the police force to take a new oath so that no fascist force can ever use the police for personal or political interests in the future.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the “National Police Week 2026” at the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground in the capital on Sunday morning.
Recalling the historic events of March 25, 1971, the Prime Minister said hundreds of policemen were martyred during the barbaric attack carried out by the Pakistani occupation forces at Rajarbagh Police Lines.
He said the freedom achieved through the sacrifice of brave police members must be protected at any cost.
The Prime Minister warned that the present government is determined to ensure that no political party or force can use the police as an instrument of repression in the future.
Emphasizing professionalism within the force, Tarique Rahman said the February 12 general election demonstrated that an independent and professional police force can perform duties impartially.
He stated that ensuring public peace and security remains the primary responsibility of the police, adding that the government expects the force to work with full dedication to protect the lives and property of ordinary citizens.
The Prime Minister also noted that the role of Bangladesh Police has earned global recognition, particularly through participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions.
He expressed hope that the police force would maintain the same reputation within the country through humane and people-friendly behavior toward citizens.
With the theme “My Police, My Country, Bangladesh First,” the four-day Police Week 2026 formally began with a colorful parade and ceremonial salute.
The Prime Minister wished the overall success of the program and conveyed his best wishes to all members of the police force.
