Sangsad Bhaban, April 27 (V7N) — Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, today said the renaming and decoration of the Parliament building’s entrance and galleries in honour of valiant freedom fighters has made the nation proud.  

“The War of Independence is the pride of the nation. The initiative to rename the Parliament entrance and galleries after General MAG Osmani and seven other war veterans has made the nation proud,” the Speaker said while chairing the session.  

BNP lawmaker Jainul Abedin Faruque Noakhali-2) expressed gratitude under a point of order, saying the portraits of Liberation War heroes displayed inside the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban have turned the Parliament into a heritage site.  

Chief Whip Nurul Islam noted that the initiative was taken under directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

A commemorative plaque has named the main entrance “Gen MAG Osmani Gate,” honouring the Commander-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and Mukti Bahini during the 1971 Liberation War.  

Seven galleries have been renamed after the nation’s Bir Sreshthas, the highest gallantry award recipients:  

- Gallery-3: Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rouf  

- Gallery-4: Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman  

- Gallery-5: Engine Room Artificer Mohammad Ruhul Amin  

- Gallery-6: Lance Naik Nur Mohammad Sheikh  

- Gallery-7: Sepoy Muhammad Mustafa Kamal  

- VIP Gallery-1: Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir  

- VIP Gallery-2: Sepoy Hamidur Rahman  

Galleries 1 and 2 have been reserved for journalists.
