Dhaka, April 26 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has paid a rich tribute to the legendary leader Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq, honoring his monumental contributions to the politics of the Indian subcontinent and his lifelong dedication to the welfare of the peasantry. In a message issued today to mark the 64th death anniversary of the late leader tomorrow, the Prime Minister remembered Fazlul Huq as one of the most distinguished figures in the history of undivided Bengal, whose visionary leadership continues to inspire generations.

The Prime Minister highlighted Huq’s pivotal role in shaping the region’s political destiny, specifically noting his presentation of the historic Lahore Resolution in 1940. This resolution, according to Tarique Rahman, ushered in a new chapter in the political landscape of the subcontinent and remains a subject of significant historical study. He emphasized that the resolution was a reflection of Huq’s far-reaching foresight and his understanding of the socio-political aspirations of the people.

Describing Sher-e-Bangla as a true representative of Bengal’s farmers, the Prime Minister noted that Huq was among the first leaders to identify the deep-rooted connection between political power and the agriculture-based economy. He recalled Huq’s relentless efforts to secure the rights and representation of marginalized agrarian communities within the governance system. These efforts, the Prime Minister said, laid the groundwork for the economic empowerment of the rural masses.

Reflecting on Fazlul Huq’s tenure as the Prime Minister of undivided Bengal in 1937, Tarique Rahman pointed to his implementation of people-friendly policies and his focus on expanding educational opportunities for the underprivileged. He characterized Huq as an inclusive leader who transcended religious and communal boundaries, earning respect across the entire subcontinent. The Prime Minister concluded his message by stating that the political philosophy and ideals of Sher-e-Bangla remain as relevant today as they were during his lifetime, serving as a guiding light for a pro-people administration.
