Dhaka, April 23 (V7N): The galleries inside Bangladesh’s National Parliament have been renamed in honor of the seven Bir Sreshtho, the highest gallantry award recipients of the country’s Liberation War, as a tribute to their supreme sacrifice and to preserve their legacy for future generations.
New nameplates have been installed inside the Parliament building, officially dedicating each gallery to a national hero. The renamed galleries are now known as Bir Sreshtho Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir Gallery, Bir Sreshtho Sepoy Hamidur Rahman Gallery, Bir Sreshtho Sepoy Mostafa Kamal Gallery, Bir Sreshtho Lance Naik Nur Mohammad Sheikh Gallery, Bir Sreshtho Engine Room Artificer Mohammad Ruhul Amin Gallery, Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Gallery, and Bir Sreshtho Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rouf Gallery.
Previously, the galleries were identified by general or geographical names. With this initiative, each gallery inside the Parliament has now been directly linked to the heroic history of the Liberation War.
Officials say the decision will play an important role in preserving the spirit of the Liberation War and educating future generations about the sacrifices made for the country’s independence. It is also expected to deepen respect for the nation’s freedom fighters among visitors to the Parliament.
Analysts believe the renaming and installation of commemorative plaques have further institutionalized and made the history of the Liberation War more visible and permanent within the national legislative space.
