DHAKA, March 29, (V7N) — A delegation led by Jean Pesme, World Bank Division Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Mohammad Aminur Rashid today at the ministry’s conference room.

At the outset, the minister welcomed the delegation, who congratulated him on assuming office as a cabinet member.

During the meeting, the minister announced that the government has taken an initiative to introduce a “Farmer Card” programme, which will be implemented nationwide in phases. This year, the scheme will be launched experimentally in 11 blocks across various districts.

He said the card will ensure protection of farmers’ interests, increase production, and guarantee sustainable development of the agricultural sector.

World Bank representatives expressed interest in expanding investment in agriculture, particularly in supplying inputs, processing products, and supporting market development. The minister welcomed the proposals, noting that such cooperation would help improve farmers’ living standards.

Both sides expressed optimism about strengthening mutual cooperation for sustainable agricultural development.
