Naogaon, Mar 16 (V7N)- Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has said that the country will witness a significant increase in food grain production through the government’s canal re-excavation initiative planned by Prime Minister Tareque Rahman.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the re-excavation work of Beltola Canal in Niamatpur Upazila under Naogaon District on Monday morning. The project is located in Srimantapur Union.
Speaking at the event, the minister said he does not seek a luxurious life but wants to serve the people with honesty. “I do not want a luxurious life; I want to work honestly as a servant of the people,” he said.
According to the minister, the implementation of the government’s canal excavation program will create opportunities for intensive crop cultivation in the Barendra region. The project will help prevent crops from being damaged due to waterlogging during the rainy season and reduce irrigation shortages during drought periods.
He added that the initiative will particularly contribute to increasing rice production and improving the livelihoods of farmers in the region.
