Dhaka, Mar 08 (V7N) – Former Prime Minister and late Begum Khaleda Zia was posthumously awarded the Best Indomitable Woman Award at a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs on Sunday morning at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium to mark International Women’s Day.

On her behalf, President Md. Shahabuddin received the award from her granddaughter, Barrister Jayma Rahman, daughter of Tarique Rahman. Khaleda Zia was recognized for her outstanding contribution to women’s education and the advancement of democracy.

Other awardees included:

  • Nurun Nahar Akhter – Women achieving success in the economic field

  • Mosha – Women achieving success in education and employment

  • Babita Khatun & Nurbanu Kabir – Successful Mother Woman category

  • Shamla Begum – Women who won the struggle for life by overcoming torture

  • Afroza Yasmin – Women making outstanding contributions to social development

At the event, President Md. Shahabuddin emphasized the government’s initiative of family cards to empower economically disadvantaged women and highlighted the importance of women’s safety outside the home to fully benefit from development programs. He also acknowledged the contributions of former President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia in advancing women’s rights.

Minister for Women and Children Affairs Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain added, “A humane society can be built by preventing violence against women, ensuring speedy justice in cases of torture, creating a safe society, and providing equal opportunities.”
