Dhaka, Mar 02 (V7N) — Minister of Liberation War Affairs Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is deeply concerned about the welfare of the July freedom fighters and has been closely monitoring the measures taken for them.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Secretariat on Monday (March 2), the minister said that State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain and the ministry secretary were present during the discussion.

The minister stated that the July fighters have been categorized into three groups: ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’, and the Prime Minister has been informed about providing Tk 3 million savings certificates to each martyr’s family. Emphasis has also been placed on ensuring education for the children of the martyr’s families and implementing rehabilitation projects for the injured.

“We have launched several schemes for the welfare and rehabilitation of those systematically affected by the July movement,” Major Hafiz said. He added that initiatives are underway to help children of the freedom fighters who dropped out of school to resume their education with allowances.

The minister also highlighted efforts to maintain the integrity of the freedom fighter list. “In the meantime, 300 fake freedom fighters have been removed from the list, and this process will continue to ensure that genuine freedom fighters receive their due benefits,” he said.
