DHAKA, Feb 25, (V7N) - Myanmar Foreign Minister Than Swe has congratulated newly appointed Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, expressing firm commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between Naypyidaw and Dhaka.

In a rare move, Twan Mrat Naing, Chairman of the United League of Arakan (ULA) and head of the Arakan Army, also sent a congratulatory letter. He wrote: “In your new capacity as the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, I hope you will continue to work with us to find practical, sustainable, and realistic solutions. Building on our existing goodwill, we now have an opportunity to chart a new course of friendship between Bangladesh and Arakan.”

Diplomatic observers view the messages as an extraordinary development, signaling readiness from both the Myanmar government and the Arakan Army to engage with Bangladesh in resolving the Rohingya crisis. Foreign Minister Rahman recently confirmed that Dhaka has been in contact with both sides.

A senior foreign ministry official told BSS: “The messages reflect confidence in the new Bangladesh government to promote a peaceful resolution of the Rohingya issue through continued contacts and dialogue.”

Bangladesh has also been engaging key countries and the United Nations to advance a durable solution. The Rohingya community has repeatedly voiced their right to return to ancestral homes in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, including at the Cox’s Bazar multi-stakeholder dialogue in August 2025 and at the UN General Assembly’s 80th session in September 2025.

The international community has acknowledged the importance of including Rohingya voices in shaping their future and securing their right of return.
