Dhaka, Feb 24 (V7N)- The High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has ordered an investigation into allegations of irregularities, corruption, fraud and nepotism in manpower recruitment at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, currently under construction in Ishwardi.
The order came Tuesday following a hearing on a writ petition by a bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar.
High-Level Committee to Report in Two Months
The court directed the formation of a high-level probe committee headed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The committee has been instructed to investigate the allegations and submit its report within two months.
Writ Filed Over Recruitment Allegations
The writ petition sought judicial directives after media reports raised concerns over alleged recruitment irregularities at the project. The petition was supported by a published report alleging that appointments were made through bribery, nepotism and fraudulent documentation.
Concerns Over Sensitive National Project
The Rooppur project — considered one of the country’s largest and most sensitive infrastructure initiatives — is operated by Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL), which is responsible for long-term operation, maintenance and security.
The court’s directive aims to clarify the allegations and ensure transparency and accountability in staffing for the strategic project.
