DHAKA, Feb 20, (V7N) - Commerce, Industries and Textiles & Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir today said Bangladesh has sufficient food reserves to ensure price stability of essentials during the upcoming Ramadan.

“The main responsibility of the Ministry of Commerce is to keep the prices of essential commodities stable. This responsibility becomes even more significant during the holy month of Ramadan,” he told journalists after exchanging greetings with officials and party leaders at Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport.

He said while the new government had limited scope for special preparations before Ramadan, adequate stock is now available to keep the market stable.

On Sylhet’s development, Muktadir reaffirmed commitments made during the election campaign, prioritizing job creation, IT-based professions, and establishing an artificial intelligence (AI) centre in Sylhet. He noted that neighboring countries are advancing digital initiatives and AI training, stressing Bangladesh must enhance its capacity to remain competitive globally.

The minister said employment generation at Sylhet IT Park depends on investment, which requires improved infrastructure, reduced bureaucracy, political stability, and a business-friendly environment. Special policy support for expatriate and local investors in Sylhet is under consideration, with visible progress expected soon.

Among others, MP M.A. Malek, Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, Range DIG Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam, and BNP leaders were present.
