Dhaka, Feb 16 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is making final arrangements for the swearing-in of its Chairman, Tarique Rahman, as Prime Minister and head of the new cabinet following his election to the 13th National Parliament.

The BNP announced that around 1,200 domestic and foreign guests will attend the ceremony. So far, representatives from eight countries have confirmed their presence, including:

  • Mohammed Muizzoo, President of Maldives

  • Abdullah Khalil, Foreign Minister of Maldives

  • Seema Malhotra, UK Under-Secretary for Indo-Pacific Affairs

  • Om Birla, Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha

  • Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary of India

  • Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives

  • Bala Nanda Sharma, Foreign Minister of Nepal

  • Nalinda Jayatissa, Health Minister of Sri Lanka

Ceremony Details

  • The swearing-in will take place at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building at 4 PM on Tuesday, February 17.

  • In addition to taking the oath of office as MPs, the newly elected members will also be sworn in as members of the Constitution Reform Council.

  • In a break from tradition, the Prime Minister and cabinet members’ oath-taking will be held at the South Plaza rather than the Bangabhaban, signaling a new approach to government ceremonies.
