Dhaka, Feb 11 (V7N) — The interim government has granted retroactive promotions to 141 officers who were dismissed, forced to retire, prematurely retired, or voluntarily retired from the armed forces during the previous Awami League government. Of these, four officers have been asked to return to active military service, while the remaining officers will retire with full benefits.
The announcement was made through a notification issued by the Ministry of Defense on February 5, signed by Defense Secretary Md. Ashraf Uddin. The notification states that the promotions, seniority, and financial benefits of the concerned officers will take effect retroactively from their original dates.
Among the promoted officers are 110 from the army, 19 from the navy, and 12 from the air force. The reinstated officers include Lieutenant Shafayet Ahmed, Lieutenant AHM Ikramuzzaman, Lieutenant Taukir Mahmud Tushar, and Lieutenant Abdullah Omar Nasif, all of whom belong to the 75th BMA Long Course.
The move follows applications submitted by officers who claimed systemic discrimination and professional harm under the previous government between 2009 and August 4, 2024. A high-level committee, led by Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Defense and National Integration, reviewed the applications and made recommendations to restore the dignity and benefits of officers affected by political vendetta.
The committee also noted that no decision could be taken regarding 201 other applicants due to insufficient documentation.
Notable officers among those promoted include:
-
Army: Lieutenant General Aminul Karim, Lieutenant General Sina Ibne Jamali, Major General Muhammad Ishtiaq, Major General Syed Fatemi Ahmed Rumi, Major General Kamruzzaman, Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Azmi
-
Navy: Commodore M Nasir, Commodore Syed Maksumul Hakim
-
Air Force: Air Vice Marshal Delwar Hossain, Air Commodore Syed Imtiaz Hossain, Air Commodore Kazi Mazharul Karim, Air Commodore Khalid Hossain, Air Commodore Shaharul Huda
The notification confirms that the promoted officers will receive retirement benefits, plots, and related financial entitlements, effectively compensating for losses endured due to their earlier dismissals.
