Dhaka, Feb 10 (V7N) — People have started leaving the capital and other major cities ahead of the national election and referendum, creating a rush at major transport hubs since Tuesday morning (February 10).

Bus terminals at Gabtoli, Sayedabad, and Mohakhali, along with the Kamalapur Railway Station, have witnessed a significant surge of passengers heading to their home districts. Despite Wednesday being the official last working day, many people have chosen to leave early, traveling with their families to avoid last-minute congestion.

The scenes at the bus terminals resemble the familiar Eid rush. Transport officials said the number of passengers is expected to increase further from Wednesday, while advance bus tickets are already nearly sold out.

Long queues have also been observed for train tickets at Kamalapur Railway Station. Passengers said that after several years, voters are returning to their localities in large numbers to exercise their franchise, describing the situation as a festive and enthusiastic atmosphere centered on voting.
