Dhaka, Jan 16 (V7N) — The government has appointed Omar bin Hadi, brother of late Inqilab Manch convener Sharif Osman bin Hadi, as second secretary at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Birmingham, UK, on a contractual basis.
The Ministry of Public Administration’s Contracts and Foreign Employment Branch issued a notification on Thursday (January 15) confirming the appointment. The three-year contract will start from the date of joining. The notification, signed by Joint Secretary Abul Hayat Md. Rafique on orders of the President, specifies that the appointee must perform government duties exclusively and cannot engage in any other profession, business, or work relationship with any government, semi-government, or private institution during the tenure.
Omar bin Hadi’s appointment comes following the tragic death of his brother, Osman Hadi. The senior political activist was shot in the head on December 12 on Box Culvert Road, Purana Paltan, Dhaka, a day after the schedule for the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum was announced. Osman Hadi was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later at Evercare Hospital. Due to worsening conditions, he was airlifted to Singapore on December 15 for advanced treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries on December 18.
The government’s appointment of Omar bin Hadi is effective immediately and will continue for the full term of the contract.
