Dhaka, Jan 05 (V7N)- Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday said that intelligence surveillance and police activities have been significantly increased nationwide ahead of the upcoming national elections to ensure law and order and a peaceful voting environment.
He made the remarks after a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order held at the Secretariat on Monday (January 5).
The Home Affairs Advisor also confirmed that the trial of Sharif Osman Hadi’s murder will be completed during the tenure of the interim government. He said a charge sheet will be submitted soon, noting that 11 people have already been arrested in connection with the case.
Urging cooperation from all quarters, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury called on citizens and political parties to help maintain a healthy electoral atmosphere and strictly follow rules and regulations.
“Any attempt to sabotage the election process will be dealt with firmly,” he warned.
He added that all law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert to prevent anti-national conspiracies and propaganda, especially through social media platforms. Discussions have also been held to counter the spread of rumors and misinformation online.
The Advisor informed that ‘Devil Hunt-2’, an ongoing law enforcement operation, has so far resulted in the arrest of 14,569 people.
He also urged political parties to remain vigilant against fascist elements or agents attempting to infiltrate their ranks and destabilize the democratic process.
