Dhaka, Jan 01 (V7N) – On the occasion of the English New Year 2026, Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has extended his heartfelt greetings to all Bangladeshis at home and abroad, as well as to people across the world.

He conveyed the message in a New Year greeting issued on Wednesday (December 31).

In his message, Professor Yunus said, “May the bond of harmony, goodwill and brotherhood be further strengthened in the new year. May the new year bring unwavering happiness, peace and prosperity to everyone’s lives. Happy New Year to all.”

Describing the significance of the New Year, he said, “The New Year marks the beginning of new dreams, new hopes and new possibilities. Its arrival inspires us with renewed enthusiasm to forget past sorrows and move forward towards a beautiful future.”

Expressing optimism about building a democratic Bangladesh, the Chief Advisor said, “Inspired by patriotism, we will devote all our strength to the welfare of the people. In the new year, this commitment will grow even stronger. Together, we will face all challenges and build a Bangladesh free from inequality, injustice and discrimination.”

Referring to the post–July Uprising context, Professor Yunus said the new year holds special significance in national life. “We hope that the journey towards democratic transition—by repairing the flawed state system—will be completed in the new year through a national election and a referendum on the July Charter Implementation Order,” he said.

He further expressed confidence that the election and referendum would help counter all conspiracies and accelerate Bangladesh’s democratic progress, calling it “our greatest expectation for the new year.”
