Dhaka, Dec 31 (V7N) — Pakistan’s Speaker of Parliament, Ayaz Sadiq, will attend the funeral of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka on Wednesday, Dec 31, replacing Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Ishaq Dar shared this information in a post on social media platform X on Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Ishaq Dar expressed deep condolences over Khaleda Zia’s death. In his message, he prayed for the departed soul and conveyed heartfelt sympathy to her bereaved family.
The funeral prayers will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday at the National Parliament Field and Manik Mia Avenue. The Imam of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque will lead the Janaza prayers. Following the prayers, Khaleda Zia will be laid to rest with full state honors beside the grave of her late husband, former President Ziaur Rahman.
Khaleda Zia passed away at 6:00 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. She was 80 years old at the time of her death. Her eldest son and BNP Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, along with close family members, were present at the hospital during her final moments.
The attendance of high-profile foreign dignitaries reflects the international recognition of Khaleda Zia’s political legacy and the deep respect held for her across the region.
