Dhaka, Dec 30 (V7N) — Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has directed all police units to give the highest priority to maintaining law and order ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election.

Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam on Monday instructed police officers at all levels to ensure strict law and order across the country in view of the forthcoming national parliamentary election. He issued the directives while addressing the monthly crime review meeting at Police Headquarters, with field-level police officials joining virtually.

The IGP emphasized that any form of election-related disorder must be dealt with immediately through strict legal action. He called for an increased visible police presence across cities and rural areas to maintain pre-election stability. In addition to regular patrols, he instructed officers to strengthen search operations through checkpoints to prevent criminal activities.

Baharul Alam stated unequivocally that anyone attempting to obstruct lawful police duties must be arrested and produced before court without delay. He stressed that police officers should not hesitate to take legal action against those creating obstacles in the enforcement of the law.

The IGP also directed field-level officers to intensify efforts to recover looted firearms from police stations. He placed special emphasis on widespread publicity of government-declared rewards related to the recovery of stolen weapons to encourage public cooperation.

All metropolitan police commissioners, range deputy inspectors general, and district superintendents of police participated in the meeting virtually. Senior officials present at Police Headquarters included Additional IGP (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain, Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Khondker Rafiqul Islam, DIG (Operations) Md Rezaul Karim, DIG (Confidential) Md Kamrul Ahsan, among others.

During the meeting, the overall crime situation for November was reviewed, including updates on convictions, execution of arrest warrants, progress of case investigations, trial outcomes, conviction rates, and other key law enforcement indicators. The IGP reiterated the police force’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and credible election process nationwide.
