Dhaka, Dec 23 (V7N)- Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that free, fair and credible elections are possible only if the rule of law is properly ensured, stressing that the Election Commission (EC) is determined to dispel allegations that it has weakened the country’s electoral system.

He made the remarks while speaking at a meeting with returning officers and field-level administration officials on the occasion of the 13th National Parliament elections and referendum on Tuesday.

“We want to refute the slander that the Election Commission has destroyed the election system,” the CEC said. “If we fail to perform our duties properly, we will not be able to answer to future generations. There is no room for failure here.”

Addressing the officials, AMM Nasir Uddin emphasized the importance of responsibility and discipline in ensuring a functional electoral process.
“If you do not do your job properly, my sleep will be disturbed. If you do not work, the authority will not work, and the entire system will collapse,” he said, urging officials to carry out their duties with integrity and diligence.

He further noted that maintaining order in the system is a shared responsibility. “We must all work together to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to us,” he added, directing all officials to act strictly in accordance with laws and regulations.

The CEC reiterated that the EC is committed to proving its capability to conduct fair and just elections. “If the rule of law is ensured and applied equally to everyone, fair elections are absolutely possible,” he said, assuring officials that the Election Commission would stand firmly by those who act within the legal framework.
