Dhaka, Dec 10 (V7N)- Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized the historic significance of the upcoming parliamentary elections and referendum, saying that while elections determine governance for the next five years, the referendum has the potential to permanently shape Bangladesh’s future.
He made these remarks during a video conference with Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) from the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday.
Dr. Yunus urged that the elections be organized fairly and efficiently to leave a positive impression on the nation. He stressed the importance of sensitizing citizens about the referendum, enabling voters to make informed decisions on whether to vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
“The referendum is not just another exercise; it is an opportunity to build the foundation of a new Bangladesh,” the Chief Advisor said. He also instructed UNOs to plan duties carefully, be prepared for any eventuality, and take steps to prevent misinformation and rumors.
Referring to previous elections, Dr. Yunus remarked, “In the past, there was fraud, not elections. The upcoming election is a historic responsibility, unlike any before.” He advised UNOs to visit all polling stations in their areas and actively engage with local leaders, officials, and communities to ensure smooth conduct of the election and referendum.
