Narsingdi, Nov 21 (V7N) – A powerful 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Narsingdi on Friday, leaving five people dead and more than a hundred injured across six upazilas, according to local authorities.

In Narsingdi Sadar’s Gabtali area, a partially constructed building collapsed during the quake, trapping 12-year-old Omar Faruk and his father Delwar Hossain, 37. Both were rescued in critical condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors later declared them dead.

In Palash upazila’s Malita village under Char Sindur Union, 75-year-old Kazem Ali died after the mud wall of his home crumbled during the tremors. Another resident, Nasir Uddin, 56, from Danga area, died after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest triggered by the quake.

Shibpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farzana Yasmin confirmed that Forkan Mia, 41, from Achakitla village, fell from a tree during the shaking and sustained severe injuries. He was initially treated at the district hospital and later referred to Dhaka for advanced care. He died on the way.

District officials reported that over one hundred people sustained injuries of varying severity, with many receiving treatment at local hospitals and temporary medical camps set up after the quake.

Authorities are continuing damage assessments, while emergency teams remain deployed to assist affected families and monitor structural risks across the district.
