Chittagong, Nov 10 (V7N) — Foreign management is necessary to transform Chittagong Port into an international-standard facility, said Shipping Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain.

He made the remarks after inaugurating the Laldia Char Container Yard in the Patenga area on Monday (November 10) morning.

The advisor said the Chittagong Port Authority is developing a container terminal on 32 acres of land, of which 14 acres have already been used to construct the new yard.

“This new facility will increase the port’s capacity by 10,000 single containers,”
he added.

Dr. Sakhawat also mentioned that discussions were held with all stakeholders before revising the port’s tariff structure.

Later, at 11 am, the Shipping Advisor inaugurated a transport terminal in the Bay Terminal area, located near the Bay of Bengal.
