Rajshahi, Nov 03 (V7N)- Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has emphasized that police personnel must remain impartial, professional, and responsible during the upcoming national elections. He stated that the police will show no loyalty to any political party or individual, pledging allegiance only to the law and the country.
“The Election Commission is the main authority responsible for conducting elections, but maintaining law and order is crucial — and the police are the strongest supporting force behind a fair election,” the IGP said.
He made the remarks on Saturday night at a special views-exchange meeting jointly organized by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and Rajshahi Range Police at the Rajshahi Police Lines drill shed.
The IGP reminded officers that no matter which government comes to power, the police’s duty is to act strictly according to the law. “No one should prejudge or deviate from their duties to please anyone,” he said, urging all members of the force to uphold their integrity.
Referring to past challenges, Baharul Alam said, “On August 5, the police went through a difficult reality. Step by step, they have overcome that situation and reached where they are today. Although some weaknesses remain, the police force is regaining strength and public trust.”
He added that the upcoming election will be both a major test and an opportunity for the police to rectify past mistakes and earn public confidence through honesty, fairness, and professionalism.
Earlier, the IGP heard about welfare issues, working conditions, and operational challenges faced by police members and assured that steps would be taken to resolve them.
The meeting was chaired by Rajshahi District Police Superintendent Farzana Islam, while RMP Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian and Rajshahi Range DIG Mohammad Shahjahan, PPM (Bar) delivered welcome speeches. Senior officials from various units of the Rajshahi Range, RMP, and Rajshahi Division Police were also present.
