Dhaka, Oct 28 (V7N)- BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said there is no scope for holding a referendum before the national elections and that it should be conducted on the day of the election.

He made the remarks after a meeting between a BNP delegation and British High Commissioner to Dhaka Sarah Cook at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Tuesday afternoon.

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized that BNP’s position on the referendum remains unchanged. He also called for the removal of questionable and controversial figures from the interim government and said that to make the Election Commission effective, the interim government must follow the caretaker government model. He stressed that elections without a caretaker system are unacceptable.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami continues to demand a referendum in November before the elections, highlighting an open dispute between BNP and Jamaat on this issue.
