Dhaka, Oct 17 (V7N) — The Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Dr. Ali Riaz, announced on Friday that the 5th clause of the July Charter pledge has been amended to incorporate the demands of the July fighters. The amendment was made following consultations with political parties, he said.

Speaking to the protesting July fighters at the South Plaza of the Parliament, Dr. Riaz read the amended commentary of Clause 5. It states that the government will:

  • Ensure that all victims of disappearances, murders, and torture during the 16-year anti-fascist democratic struggle, as well as those killed by certain members of the fascist Awami League and allied law enforcement agencies during the July-August 2024 mass uprising, are tried;

  • Grant state recognition to the martyrs and provide appropriate support to their families, including monthly allowances, medical treatment, rehabilitation measures, and legal protections;

  • Ensure the protection of fundamental rights and security of the martyrs and wounded warriors of July.

Dr. Riaz emphasized that the Consensus Commission will submit a clear and detailed plan for implementing this clause to the government, adding that there is no disagreement between the political parties and the commission on this matter.

Members of the commission present during the announcement included Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Md. Ayub Mia, and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider.
