Dhaka, Oct 12 (V7N) – Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan inaugurated the foundation stone of the 'July Memorial' at Osmani Udyan on Sunday (October 12), emphasizing the importance of preserving the spirit of the July Uprising for future generations.
Speaking to reporters, Asif Mahmud addressed criticism over the project’s budget, stating that political motives were behind the objections. “In the past, during the fascist era, even smaller sculptures had budgets ranging from 300 to 400 crore taka, yet no one raised questions. Now, because work is being done regarding July, some are creating unnecessary pressure,” he said.
The advisor expressed hope that the July Memorial, being constructed at a cost of 464 million taka, will be completed by December. He emphasized that the memory of the martyrs has been given the utmost importance in the project.
The memorial will feature a 90-foot-high tower, including a 70-foot bronze tower engraved with the names of the martyrs atop a 20-foot concrete base. The site will also include 20 epitaphs and concrete sculptures depicting key events from 1947, 1952, 1971, and 1990 along its curved outer wall.
