Dhaka, Sep 23 (V7N) – UNESCO Bangladesh Representative Susan Vaiz held a meeting with Information and Broadcasting Advisor Md. Mahfuz Alam at the ministry on Tuesday afternoon.

During the meeting, the advisor said that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is preparing an ordinance to safeguard the rights of journalists, based on recommendations from the Media Reform Commission. He assured that the government will provide full cooperation to ensure the media can operate independently during the upcoming national elections.

Mahfuz Alam emphasized that there is currently no government interference in the media. “The government expects a neutral and responsible role from the media,” he said.

The two sides also discussed the role of the Bangladesh Press Council, ongoing ministry initiatives to provide training for journalists, and strategies to prevent the spread of rumors and propaganda.

Kizi Tahnin, Head of the Culture Branch of UNESCO Bangladesh, was also present at the meeting.
