Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N) – Another 176 Bangladeshi nationals have returned home from Libya, arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 9:45 am on Thursday (September 18) aboard a Boraq Air flight.
The returnees had been detained at the Tajura Detention Center in Tripoli, the Libyan capital, and were repatriated on Wednesday (September 17) with the assistance of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), according to the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli.
The embassy said it has been working closely with Libyan authorities and IOM to ensure the safe return of Bangladeshi citizens held in various detention centers across the North African country. As part of this ongoing process, the 176 detainees were released and repatriated under IOM’s voluntary humanitarian return program.
A delegation from the Bangladesh Embassy, led by Ambassador Major General Abul Hasnat Muhammad Khairul Bashar, was present at the Libyan Immigration Department’s reception center to bid farewell to the repatriated citizens before their departure.
