Dhaka, Sep 03 (V7N) – Mokhles Ur Rahman, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, announced on Wednesday that 4,000 police officers will be appointed ahead of the upcoming national elections. The appointments aim to ensure smooth and impartial electoral processes across the country.
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat, the Senior Secretary said that if any officers working at the field level show bias toward any political party or obstruct the election process, administrative action will be taken against them.
He added that 50 percent of the ASIs will be appointed directly, while the remaining 50 percent will be promoted from within. “Some amendments were needed in the appointment process, and they have now been made,” he said.
Mokhles Ur Rahman also noted that the Chief Advisor has agreed in principle to deploy several forces in line with election requirements. Accordingly, the posts have been created through coordination among the Finance, Public Administration, and Home Ministries.
Regarding the appointment of Deputy Commissioners (DCs), the Secretary said a seven-member committee is overseeing the process. He confirmed that no returning officer or DC involved in the past three national elections will be eligible to serve in the upcoming polls.
