Dhaka, May 21 (V7N) — M Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Labor and Shipping, has issued a stern warning to garment factory owners, including those of TNZ Garments and Mahbub Garments, stating that if outstanding wages are not paid to workers by May 28, the owners will face arrest.
He made the announcement during a press conference held at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning. The briefing was organized to address preparations for safe Eid-ul-Adha travel and ensure smooth navigation on waterways.
“Arrest warrants have already been issued against five factory owners. No one will be spared if they fail to clear workers’ dues by the deadline,” the advisor said firmly.
Addressing concerns over Eid holiday travel, the advisor also announced a series of measures to enhance passenger safety. These include deploying four armed Ansar personnel on every launch and suspending bulkhead movement on waterways for three days before and after Eid to facilitate smooth and secure passenger transport.
The government’s proactive approach aims to prevent labor unrest in the garment sector and ensure a safe and orderly travel experience for millions of Eid holidaymakers.
