Dhaka, Feb 05 (V7N)— Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that isolated incidents like attacks on police stations and prisons may occur occasionally, but the government's response is what truly matters. His comments come in the wake of recent attacks on law enforcement facilities across the country.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the Naval Police Headquarters in Gulshan on Wednesday morning, the advisor assured that the government is taking decisive action against such incidents.

“There will be a couple of incidents like attacks on police stations and prisons. But the main issue is whether the government is taking action or not. The government is taking action on every incident,” he said.

His statement follows Tuesday night’s attack on Uttara Paschim Police Station in Dhaka, where several officers were injured. Simultaneously, Kashimpur Prison came under attack, forcing prison authorities to release two militants who had been granted bail but were detained under the Special Powers Act. Similar attacks occurred in January at Banani Police Station and in New Market, where an attempt was made to abduct an accused.

When questioned about the fugitive war criminals wanted by the International Crimes Tribunal, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury admitted that most of them have already fled the country, making their arrest difficult.

“Most of them have left the country, so they cannot be arrested,” he said. “However, we have arrested many suspects against whom arrest warrants have been issued by the tribunal. Efforts are ongoing to bring back those who have fled.”

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, also present at the event, confirmed that Bangladesh has requested Interpol to issue red notices for the fugitives.

“If a red notice is issued, the police of the respective countries will arrest them,” the IGP stated, emphasizing that the process is underway.

Despite growing concerns over rising attacks and public disturbances, the government remains firm in its stance that law and order are being maintained through necessary actions.
