Dhaka, Feb 04 (V7N) — The Election Commission (EC) has registered 4,970,388 new voters during its latest door-to-door voter list update program, which concluded on Monday.
Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed provided details on the voter registration update during a press briefing at the EC Secretariat on Tuesday. He stated that around 1.5 million names have been left out of the list, but voter information is being securely stored in a database.
The latest update shows a 2.44% voter growth rate, with new voter registration accounting for 1.45% of the total, leading to an overall growth rate of 3.9%. Additionally, 1.523 million deceased voters have been removed from the list. Those excluded can still register through local EC offices or online.
Regarding women voters, Akhtar Ahmed highlighted that 1.6 million women have been newly registered, and those left out during the update will be included in the final list. The voter registration process will continue until April 11, and eligible individuals can still register through online platforms and regional EC offices.
Addressing concerns about underage registrations, Ahmed said the EC has no confirmed cases of 17-year-olds registering with false information. However, if any such cases are reported, the commission will investigate.
The EC also assured that if any household was missed during the door-to-door data collection, authorities would look into the matter.
