Jhalakathi, Dec 26 (V7N) – A man identified as Babul Molla, 40, died on Wednesday morning after diving into cold water 112 consecutive times in Palat village under Baroia Union of Rajapur upazila.
According to local sources, Babul Molla, a resident of Palat village, made a wager with several people from the nearby Kachari Bari market. As part of the bet, he repeatedly submerged himself in severely cold water early in the morning. Shortly after completing the dives, he suddenly fell ill.
Locals rushed him to the Rajapur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared him dead upon arrival.
Doctors said prolonged exposure to extremely cold water can lead to serious physical complications, including hypothermia and cardiac stress. They added that the exact cause of death would be determined following the completion of necessary legal and medical procedures.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the village, with family members and neighbors mourning the sudden and untimely death.
